Police warning after spate of burglaries in Caerphilly

News | | Published: 10:32, Friday August 18th, 2017.

Police have issued a series of reminders to residents after a spate of burglaries in Caerphilly town over the past month.

Gwent Police is urging people to remain vigilant after businesses, homes, sheds and garages were targeted in Caerphilly town centre, Nantgarw Road, Crescent Road and Pontygwindy Road.

Inspector Gavin Clifton said: “In the last month there has been an increase in the number of burglaries in the Caerphilly area and we’re continuing to take a proactive approach to arresting those responsible.

“We’re appealing to anyone with information about these incidents or anyone who might have witnessed a burglary to come forward and report it.

“Also by taking a few, simple precautions, you can reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of a burglary.”

The force issued the following tips for protecting homes against burglary in the summer:

· Make sure windows and doors are locked when you leave the house or go to bed.
· Do not leave your windows on the air vent position as this will allow intruders to access the locking points making it easy access.
· Lock your front door even if you are at home and especially if you are in your back garden.
· Don’t leave your car keys in an easy to reach place (for example near to doors and windows) and take them upstairs with you when you got to bed.
· Make sure sheds are locked and don’t leave items of value on display in the garden.
· Never post details about your forthcoming holidays on social media accounts and don’t tag yourself into airports or locations while you are away.

Anyone with information on the burglaries can call 101 and quote incident number 1700311080.

It appears crime is on the increase throughout Gwent – with these burglaries;the break in at Tesco in Trethomas and the robbery at Nelson petrol station being just a few recent examples.
We need to move away from Gwents Model of Response policing and return to local police patrols and police officers patrolling on foot in local communities.
