A recent memorial concert raised £3,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association charity.

The Vanguard Centre and Van Road United Reformed Church in Caerphilly has raised £9,000 for MDNA since November 2015, after its late chairman, David Hawthorn, died last year having been diagnosed with the disease.

Organiser David Fortey said: “The first memorial concert was a resounding success and we look forward to planning next year’s charity gala concert in David Hawthorn’s name.

“A huge thank you to all of the artistes who gave their time and their talent in memory of David Hawthorn, and of course in support of the MNDA. Also a huge thank you to the magnificent management committee at the Vanguard Centre who have organised a total of 28 separate events since November 2015 to help raise this fantastic amount for charity.”
