A garden centre manager is gearing up for an ultra challenge by taking part in an ultra marathon.

Caerphilly Garden Centre’s Ryan Flowers, 35, will be running a total of 135 miles in just three days when he takes on the Ring O’ Fire event, beginning the weekend of Friday, September 1.

Ring O’ Fire is a coastal ultra marathon which takes runners on an extraordinary 135-mile journey around Anglesey in North Wales.

The “epic” foot race is staged over three consecutive days and follows the rugged Anglesey Coastal Path.

Ryan is taking on the challenge to raise money for charity Bowel Cancer UK.

He said: “My Mum had bowel cancer and my Nan had it, and both survived. Even though it’s one of the most diagnosable cancers, it is still one of the three biggest killers in the UK.

“It’s a disease that has hit close to home for my family, so the charity seemed like a good one to run for.”

It will not be the first ultra marathon for Ryan, who has been running for around seven years, but the event is still renowned for its gruelling nature and he is leaving nothing to chance by training hard.

So far he has raised in excess of £1,000 – double his initial target.
