Caerphilly County Borough Council has approved plans to adopt the Welsh Government’s High Street Rate Relief Scheme to provide support for eligible high street retail businesses affected by the recent rating revaluation.
The council is issuing application forms directly to eligible ratepayers.
The scheme offers up to £500 discount on a business rate bill per property for Tier 1 properties and up to £1,500 per property for Tier 2 properties. The scheme only applies to the current financial year 2017/18.
Cllr Colin Gordon, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: “We welcome the decision to support businesses, particularly those affected by the introduction of new levels of business rates since April this year.
“I would encourage businesses receiving an application form through the post to complete and return it as soon as possible.”
