Green-fingered council tenants from across Caerphilly County Borough have been recognised for their floral exploits at Llancaiach Fawr.

Winners of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s annual gardening contest were announced over afternoon tea at the 16th Century manor on Thursday, September 14.

Awards were presented for best hanging basket, best sheltered communal garden, best garden, and best community garden.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, said: “Gardening offers many benefits, from lifting the appearance of our communities to improving health and wellbeing. This contest is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of many of our tenants and community groups and to thank them for the part they play in transforming their local areas.

“It was wonderful judging the contest and seeing the effort and dedication entrants have put into their gardens; the standard of entries was very high. I’d like to congratulate all of this year’s winners and runners-up and thank everyone who took the time to enter.”
