Politicians and local dignitaries were in attendance as a new workshop was officially opened at an adult day centre in Rhymney.

The new building at Hafod Deg Resource Centre, on Rhymney High Street, will provide extra space for volunteers engaged in projects such as the Men in Sheds gardening group, and was refurbished using a Welsh Government grant.

The workshop will also be used to deliver activities by mental health organisations, services from Citizen’s Advice Bureau, nutrition and dietary advice.

Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children, Carl Sargeant said: “I am pleased to see how Welsh Government funding has helped make a difference in this area. The work undertaken at Hafod Deg and Rowan Place demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnership working. This is a fantastic facility for the local community.”

Cllr David Poole, added: “Local residents are now able to access a range of services from Hafod Deg, thereby helping to address the social and economic issues experienced in the area.”

A much needed resource – nice to see the councillors giving themselves the obligatory pats on the back.

So true John the only time you see a councillor now is when they open something. We have we even got a mayor what role do they do? In this time of cut backs do we really need a mayor? Especially when other councils have got rid of this role

Thats a good question Edward – why have Caerphilly got a Mayor when other councils have got rid of the position ?
An expensive figurehead that we can do without.
