Two arrested after man in his 20s stabbed on a Rhymney-bound train

A man in his 20s has been seriously injured after a stabbing on a train near Pontlottyn.

Detectives from British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the incident yesterday evening.

The incident happened on board the 4.02pm Arriva Trains Wales service travelling between Penarth and Rhymney.

Police said that shortly before 5.30pm there was a disturbance on board the train and that the victim of the assault suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed in the chest.

The man in hos 20s was treated by paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service and was taken to hospital for further treatment. He is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

A man was arrested on suspicion of occasioning grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Another man was arrested on suspicion of occasioning grievous bodily harm. Both are in custody as enquiries continue.

Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses to this incident to get in contact.

Sergeant Benjamin Randall-Webb from British Transport Police, said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation and are urgently working to understand exactly what happened. A man has received very serious injuries and he is receiving specialist treatment at hospital.

“We are aware that this was a busy train and are very keen to speak with those passengers who were on board and saw what happened. If you were on board this train, please get in touch as your information could prove vital.”

    Totally disgusting! Lets hope the the two people arrested are sent to prison. It makes you to scared to travel on the train. Our valley is going down hill fast we dont see no police, no CPOs and no council wardens. Our streets are not safe anymore
