Three month closure order for “nuisance” property in Caerphilly

A house in Caerphilly described as a “problem property” will be shut down for three months after Caerphilly County Borough Council obtained a closure order.

The council successfully obtained the order, executed under Section 80 of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2015, from Newport Magistrates’ Court last month, after repeated reports of antisocial behaviour, noise, and property damage.

The house, on Plas Thomas, in Caerphilly, will now be closed for three months and the unauthorised occupiers – anyone living at the house who was not the tenant – will not be permitted to reoccupy the property.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, said: “The incidents taking place at this property were having a negative impact on the local community.

“The closure order was necessary to prevent any further incidents of nuisance or disorder taking place.
“On behalf of the council, I’d like to thank our partner agencies and the residents who worked with our Tenancy Enforcement Section.”

“Their involvement was key in bringing about this positive outcome.”

Morgan Jones ward councillors James Pritchard and Shayne Cook supported residents through the process and welcomed the news.

In a statement both councillors said: “We met with residents to hear the extent of the problems being experienced.

“We remained in close contact with the council’s Housing Department and urged that necessary steps be taken to move the unauthorised occupiers out of the property.

“We thank the local community for their brave efforts in confronting this situation.”

I would like to know how long this order took to obtain from the courts. Time these animals caused upset and misery to their neighbours. These animals should never be allowed to rent a council house or privately rent again. If they cant behaviour like people they do not deserve a house to live in.

What exactly is meant by closing it down?
Is it a normal residential property or some sort of halfway house or something?

I am bewildered too, just what is this place and do we need it?
