An action group is calling for residents to make their voices heard over plans to build 350 homes at Virginia Park Golf Club, in Caerphilly.

The plans, which were unveiled by developer Barton Willmore in August, include affordable housing, a community centre, and cycle routes.

However, with the application now submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council, residents are being urged to submit their comments to the authority ahead of the deadline on Thursday, November 2.

Campaigners and Morgan Jones ward councillors have met to discuss how to oppose the development and, in a letter to residents, outlined their reasons for objecting to the plans.

The letter makes reference to the increase in traffic and associated pollution as a result of the development, and that the golf course is built on top of a refuse tip.

Cai Parry, Planner at Barton Willmore, previously said: “While the entire landfill site will be remediated as part of the proposed development, approximately half of it will be utilised for much-needed housing with the remaining land to be dedicated to public open space use.”

Residents wishing to make comment on the development can visit goo.gl/K5xq2p or quote reference 17/0804/OUT when calling the council on 01443 866416.

I know we have a housing shortage but caerphilly cant cope with more houses. Our roads are over stretched as it is. I expect the council needs more house for all the council tax it needs to bail us out of thr mess we are in.

It is now time for people to speak out – or put up with all these proposed developments.
Yes – imagine how much council tax would be generated from all these proposed developments !
Another cash cow for the council – and they would have to waste the money on more road improvement schemes.

Roads, roads, roads, it’s like a wax cylinder gone haywire. The desire to cruise to work in air-conditioned luxury, doffing your cap to the peasants leading their horse to the fields, and rarely seeing another car, is a poor reason to scupper a sound, sustainable development.
This one, on a landfill site, puts 700+ residents bang in the middle of town. Yes, they’ll need doctors and schools, some of which may be already under pressure but they also need hairdressers, pubs, restaurants, shops, gyms, child-minders etc and surely that’s a good thing?
Congestion is a choice that we all make. Only with the recent Pwllypant scheme has Caerphilly experienced the sort of congestion that many tolerate every day.
Rather than bleating about the creation of much-needed housing we should be standing up to the curse of the Single Occupancy Vehicle and how it’s destroying our society.

Some people have no option but to drive in a single car, its not out of choice its a essential. We need cheaper and better public transport but even then people would rather use the car.

Anyone fancy a lift to work in my sole occupancy car, sometimes at 3 a.m.? No…thought not.

If you’re stuck in traffic at 3 a.m. then maybe you should move to Caerphilly? Even Pwllypant is clear then! 😉

What is the point in voicing concerns to the council over yet another development for the town. No one in authority ever listens to the people anyway. Developers have one thing in common, its called money and they just do not give a damn about anything except profit..

The whole council needs a new broom, get shot of all the managers from all departments amd start a fresh. As you say they pull in a good wage for very little wage n sit around making bad decisions and get fat.
