Two social enterprises based in Caerphilly County Borough have been recognised for their work.

Among the winners of this year’s Social Business Wales Awards were Valleys Gymnastic Academy from Crumlin and The Furniture Revival based in Rhymney.

Valleys Gymnastic Academy was awarded the prize for best Consumer Facing Social Enterprise. VGA provides high-quality gymnastics related activities for members of the community.

It currently engages with more than 2,400 individuals a week across the Valleys region and is the largest gymnastics club in Wales. The organisation is fully sustainable and has no ongoing reliance upon public funds.

The winner of the Environmental Social Enterprise award was The Furniture Revival – a social enterprise owned by environmental charity Groundwork Wales.

Originally established in 1999, it aims to divert items from landfill whilst tackling poverty by providing affordable second-hand furniture to individuals on low incomes within the Caerphilly Borough.

Katy Stevenson, Chief Executive of Groundwork, thanked all of the Furniture Revival’s partner organisations.

She said: “We are immensely proud of the fantastic work the team at Furniture Revival do to divert furniture away from landfill and into people’s homes, and we are delighted to have been awarded this accolade.

“We help families in need across the Valleys to furnish their homes for less, while supporting the environmental aims of our organisation.”
