Senghenydd is set to feature in a new upcoming comedy film.

Production on Denmark finished last month, with scenes shot in the village and surrounding area.

The short film stars Rafe Spall as Herb, a man who can fix anything but his own life. He’s out of work, low on money, stuck with loud neighbours and it’s raining.

Stuck in his cold flat, he stumbles on a TV programme about the luxury of Danish prisons and finds the answer he’s been looking for: organic food, a flat screen TV, healthcare, a dentist, peace and quiet. Herb needs to leave behind his friends in the South Wales Valleys, make it to Denmark… and get arrested.

The film, which doesn’t have a release date, was written by BAFTA winner Jeff Murphy, directed by Adrian Shergold and was developed by BBC Films and Ffilm Cymru Wales.

Joe Oppenheimer, executive producer, said: “Denmark is a little jewel of a film.

“It’s a story of a modern, timeless Everyman, portrayed with great empathy and effortless charm by Rafe Spall.”
