A happy couple spent Boxing Day celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Marion and Alfred Floyd, aged 92 and 96 respectively, first met in post-war London way back in 1946.

Alf was a bus driver and Marion worked in the depot canteen. Following a year long courtship they married on Boxing Day 1947.

They have shared a wonderful life together and have brought up two sons.

While staying in London Alf changed vocation and became a school caretaker.

Around 1959, the couple decided to move to Wales, Marion’s birthplace.

They had had enough of the London smog and wanted a healthier lifestyle for their young family – especially as they loved the outdoors and craved clean, fresh air.

Marion and Alf managed the Old Comrades Club in Llanbradach and later a fish and chip shop in Trethomas, before taking well-earned retirement, moving to West Wales.

Here they spent long hours walking the beaches, entertaining family and friends and sharing in the many happy memories they had experienced.

Marion and Alf have been blessed with seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The couple are now residents at HC-One’s Trafalgar Park Care Home in Nelson, where a special party was laid on for their special day.

They received a card from HM The Queen and celebrated their anniversary with family, fellow residents and care home staff.
