GE Aviation in Nantgarw recognised for its people development

GE Aviation has been crowned a winner at the South Wales Chamber of Commerce Welsh Business Awards.

The Nantgarw-based company won the Commitment to Skills and People Development category, sponsored by Effective Communication, in a glittering awards ceremony at City Hall in Cardiff.

The international company employs a highly-skilled workforce of over 1,200 people, providing maintenance,repair and overhaul services for commercial aircraft, customers including Emirates, United, and British Airways.

Imogen Findlay, of GE Aviation, said: “Worldwide, our company is committed to training and developing our employees and at Nantgarw there is no exception. We believe that great ideas can come from anyone, at any time, so we need to create an environment where people can flourish.”

Heather Myers, Director of South and Mid Wales Chamber of Commerce, said: “We were impressed by GE Aviation’s comprehensive processes which put clear emphasis on training and development across the board, giving everyone the opportunity to advance in their career.”

Other winners included Concrete Canvas from Treforest who won three awards including Welsh Business of the Year,Ty Mawr Lime from Brecon winners of Excellence in Community Management and Burns Pet Nutrition from Kidwelly for Excellence in Community Relations.

The University of South Wales was headline sponsor for this year’s awards, alongside category sponsors Western Power Distribution, Pro Steel Engineering, Barclays Bank, Heart Radio, Atradius, Port of Milford Haven, and Effective Communication.

Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of South Wales, said: “This year’s awards were the most hotly contested yet and it was very heartening to see so many Welsh companies really pushing the envelope in terms of their achievements.

“Congratulations to everyone who was shortlisted,especially the winners.”

A record number of entries were submitted for this year’s Welsh Business Awards,with entries up by 19% on previous years and more companies than ever were judged before making the final shortlist.

The awards aim to recognise the very best from businesses nationwide and celebrate excellence among Welsh businesses,whether small, medium or large.
