A motorcyclist has died following a fatal road traffic collision between a motorcyclist and a car on the A468 in Lower Machen this morning, Thursday, April 19.

Gwent Police received reports of the collision around 7.50am.

The male motorcyclist died of his injuries and the car driver was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital for medical treatment but his condition is not yet known.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called today at approximately 7.50am to reports of a road traffic collision involving one car and a motorbike on the A468 near Lower Machen, Newport.

“We responded with two rapid response vehicles, two emergency ambulances and medical support from Medserve, where one patient was conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.”

The road has remained closed between Rhiwderin and the Draethen turnoff while specialist officers from Gwent Police are working at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

The road closure has caused traffic chaos during the rush hour as commuters sought alternative routes.
