Caerphilly Comic Con is back after a successful first year in 2017 when it raised more than £4,000 for Caerphilly Children’s Centre.

This year, Caerphilly Comic Con is raising funds for the Sense Touchbase Centre in Caerphilly.

The event, which was attended by more than 1,000 people last year, will be bigger for 2018 and will take place on June 9 at St Cenydd Leisure Centre, in Trecenydd.

A number of schools in Caerphilly borough will be taking part with pupils dressing up as fantasy superheroes and raising funds on June 8 at their schools.

They will also take part in two competitions (art comic and fantasy costume) which will be judged at the Comic Con.

The event will be hosting professional groups from the worlds of Star Wars, Ghostbusters and many other sci-fi and film groups along with the Jurassic Park Jeep.

There will also be film stars, free activities, competitions and much more including over 25 specialist comic and sci-fi stands from around the UK at the event.

In addition, the event will be home to Caerphilly’s first ever Mini Steampunk Festival with Tea Duelling and Teapot Racing competitions together with Caerphilly’s first ever Game Con with specialist game traders and Caerphilly Table-Top Gamers Society (CTG) hosting free game demos all day.

There will also be free children’s Katag sessions all day hosted by Caerphilly-based Katag UK.

Holders of special golden tickets (schools taking part in the dress-up on June 8), will benefit from discounted entry to the event.

Caerphilly borough school competitions places are still available for the golden tickets.

Vik Yadh, organiser, is looking to raise more than £10,000 this year for the Sense Centre and has just completed the Newport Marathon as part of the fundraising. He is now preparing for an ‘Assault on Mount Doom event’ on June 3 at Pen-Y-Fan, before the main Comic Con event on June 9.
