Bedwas lottery winner returns to lucky store

News | | Published: 13:00, Monday July 9th, 2018.

Nigel Willetts, 52, bought his EuroMillions ticket from Tesco in June 2014.

A lottery winner from Bedwas has returned to the Tesco store where he bought his lucky ticket.

Nigel Willetts, 52, accidentally pulled a £20 note out of his pocket to pay for his EuroMillions tickets back in June 2014. As it was a rollover he decided on the spur of the moment to spendthe £20 on the lottery instead of £10.

As it turned out, the draw on Friday, June 13, was not so unlucky with Mr Willetts scooping a cool £1 million.

Unveiling a golden lottery ticket stand at Tesco in Crossways Retail Park, Caerphilly, the landlord of the Bridgend Inn in Bedwas said: “Life has been amazing since winning on EuroMillions.

“I was able to buy out The Bridgend Inn and invest, and enjoy holidays for my family, something we could only have dreamt of before that lucky day in 2014.”

The stand features Mr Willetts’ handprint and the pub landlord, who is a founder of the GoAir trampoline park in Cardiff, added: “I hope that this gold playstation will bring a little bit of extra luck to Caerphilly players so our millionaires club can grow even bigger. Lots of people jokingly ask me to rub their ticket for luck, now everyone can rub my lucky handprint instead.”
