Former Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr John Bevan, has donated £8,427.30 to his chosen charities using funds raised during his time as mayor last year.

Cancer Research Wales and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) are Cllr Bevan’s chosen charities.

They will each receive £4,213.65 as a result of fundraising activities that have included concerts, quizzes, raffles, an auction, dress down days and a number of other donations.

Money was also raised for the Mayor’s chosen charities from a number of community efforts throughout Caerphilly.

Cllr John Bevan said: “I am delighted to have raised so much for Cancer Research Wales and CRY in Memory of Jack Thomas during my time as Mayor and I hope that the donations will provide support to two fantastic causes”.

Jack Thomas passed away in February 2012 at the age of 15 after collapsing while watching a rugby match at home. A memorial fund was set up following his death, aimed as reducing the frequency of young sudden cardiac death through supporting CRY’s screening programme.
