St Cenydd students launch Caerphilly Chronicles book

Pupils used the local environment for inspiration

A new book written and illustrated by students at St Cenydd Comprehensive School has officially been launched.

Caerphilly Chronicles is a project lead by a class of Year 7 students in cooperation with the Arts Council of Wales.

The participating students were presented with copies of their published books in a presentation at St. Cenydd Comprehensive School on Friday, 15 June.

The project was devised and created by creative practitioners Tracey Moberly and Sara Sylvester, and the school’s head of Geography, Nicola Webber.

Ms Moberly said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the students. They took creativity into the classroom and the creative approach to learning has produced something brilliant.”

As part of the project, the students, aged eleven and twelve, explored Medieval settlements, studied Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and stories from the Mabinogion.

From this they created their own poetry, constructed mythical creatures and chronicled individual stories focusing on Caerphilly Castle.

The book is available to buy online at lulu.com and costs £15.
