Rhymney pupils achieve second place in business competition

Year Six pupils from a primary school in Rhymney have achieved runner-up status in a business competition at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

The four pupils from Ysgol y Lawnt, achieved second place in the Enterprise Troopers National Final on Tuesday, July 3.

The team entered their business ‘Caffi Clic a Chlonc’, a weekly community cafe with the purpose of teaching Welsh and developing information technology skills within the local community.

Qualification for the final came after the school achieved the Enterprise Troopers Gold Award in the regional finals on Tuesday, June 19.

The Enterprise Troopers national competition is a Welsh Government initiative that recognises the most successful young business ventures in Wales.

At the national final, students delivered a presentation to over 100 people before being interviewed by five business leaders.

Team member Ffion Williams was also awarded ‘Star Trooper of the Day’.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement said: “Well done to the students at Ysgol y Lawnt for competing in the Enterprise Troopers competition.

“This is a fantastic achievement and shows that the pupils are able to organise, develop and run a business successfully.”
