Timeshare scam warning issued by Caerphilly Trading Standards

News | | Published: 06:49, Tuesday July 31st, 2018.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards have urged people to be on their guard against holiday timeshare scams.

Over the last 12 months more than 800 complaints have been made across the UK with people getting ripped-off.

Cllr Eluned Stenner, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Trading Standards, said: “I would urge consumers to show caution when considering a timeshare property, whether abroad or in the UK, as well as remaining diligent during lengthy seminars and presentations which in reality are nothing more than elaborate sales pitches.

“Scammers prey on innocent consumers with offers that appear ‘too good to be true’ and I would urge anyone considering a timeshare property to take their time and make all of the necessary checks before reaching a decision.”

Anyone who is concerned about dealings with a timeshare company can call Citizens Advice on 03454 04 05 06, or Action Fraud Contact Centre on 0300 123 2050.

Sales people are difficult to ignore, especially if you’re usually polite, but just say firmly “not interested” and repeat this whatever they patter they come out with. They are attempting to form a friendly relationship, not because they have your interest at heart but because they are desperate to sell a product that really does not bear scrutiny.
