Three men were arrested and released pending an investigation

Three men have been arrested and taken to hospital on suspicion of drink driving following an incident that closed the A469 near the Pwllypant roundabout this morning.

Gwent Police shut the A469 between the Pwllypant and Coed y Brain roundabouts in the early hours of the morning, causing hours of delays that have continued into the afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “We received a call at 4.10am this morning, with reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Cedar Tree roundabout on the A469. The vehicles involved were a blue Volkswagen Golf and a grey Alfa Romeo.

“Three local men aged 23, 24 and 38 were all arrested on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit and released under investigation.

“They have all been conveyed to University Hospital Wales for medical treatment for their injuries which not believed to be life threatening.

Only 2 cars involved – but 3 persons arrested on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit – clearly the 2 persons in the one vehicle are not admitting who was driving at the time of the incident.
