News | | Published: 14:58, Friday August 17th, 2018.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11:33am

One man has been taken to hospital after a tractor and trailer collided with a railway bridge in Pengam.

Emergency services were called to the Glan y Nant area of Pengam at around 11:33am this morning, and the Rhymney railway line remained closed until it reopened just after 1pm.

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one male casualty was extracted through the rear window of the tractor’s cab before being transported to hospital.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 11:30am we received reports of a road traffic collision involving a tractor and a bridge near Station Road, Pengam.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the road was closed whilst recovery work took place.

“At this time it is believed there are no life changing or threatening injuries.”

Arriva Trains Wales confirmed that Rhymney line was fully reopened at approximately 1pm, but warned that some knock-on effects would continue into the afternoon until trains were back on schedule.

Stagecoach also confirmed their C9 bus service returned to normal just before 2pm.
