Walkers were amazed to find a replica of Jesus Christ on Twmbarlwm on Monday, August 27, after a fibreglass statue appeared at the summit above Cwmcarn.
The eight-foot statue had been carried up the mountain by the owner of a nearby prop shop.
Stephen Bancroft, who owns Event Prop Shop in Pontnewydd, Cwmbran, was helped by his friend Mark Taylor and their sons.
Mr Bancroft, 56, said: “It was a real adventure, and we could never have expected to gain this much attention.
“We didn’t have many good photos of this particular prop. We figured with Twmbarlwm just up the road, it would make a good opportunity to take some photos..”
It took the group over an hour to reach the summit, as they carried the 40kg figure over stiles and fences.
The group attracted a considerable amount of attention, with plenty of passers-by stopping to take photos and applaud the group’s efforts.
Responding to the responses from people they met on the day, Mr Bancroft said: “We passed many walkers, and all the responses were positive.
“Many people were aghast, and one guy who regularly walks his dog there said he thought he had had an epiphany.”
Mr Bancroft now hopes the statue will gain a little more interest from customers in the run up to Christmas.
Well done to all, an original idea, and Christ looks at home against a back drop of Welsh farmland.
