Magistrates have granted a closure order on a property in Elliots Town, in New Tredegar.

The order bans visitors from entering 20 Long Row, unless they are the property’s occupants or are authorised personnel, such as the emergency services or council workers.

The order was made at Newport magistrates’ Court on September 13 under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

It is the first such order granted to Caerphilly County Borough Council which applied to the court following reports of criminal and antisocial behaviour in the area.

Evidence to support the order, which lasts for three months, was provided by council officers and the police.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, the council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, said: “The decision to apply for a Closure Order came as a result of the council working with its partner agencies to find a solution to the negative impact this property was having on the wider community.

“We welcome the court’s decision to grant the order, which will prevent further incidents of nuisance at this property.”
