The incident happened on Bedwas Road in Caerphilly

A mother driving with her baby in the back seat had her car forcibly stopped by a stranger who then got in and told her to drive.

The man, described as being in his mid-40s with grey hair and grey stubble, stopped the red Mazda near B&M Bargains on Bedwas Road, Caerphilly, at around 9.30am yesterday, Thursday, December 20.

The man wanted the driver to take him to a police station because he was being chased by a person in a black Jaguar who had beaten him up.

The terrified mother drove the “distressed” man to Caerphilly railway station after telling him the police station was closed. The man then got out.

Posting about the incident on social media, a friend of the driver said: “She just wanted to get him out of her car as quickly as possible to keep herself and her daughter safe.”

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 11.10am on Thursday, December 20, Gwent Police were called about a stranger entering a woman’s car on Bedwas Road, Caerphilly.

“The incident, which occurred at around 9.30am, involved a distressed male stopping a car in the road. The driver then took the man to the train station. The driver was not harmed.

“Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made at this stage.”

Anyone with information on the incident can contact Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 139 of 20/12/18.
