Council warns residents over scam

News | Rhys Williams | Published: 09:24, Thursday June 6th, 2019.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has warned residents to be wary of a scam.

The council has issued the warning after receiving reports of an unauthorised company pushing leaflets through doors.

The company, called Safe Housing, is believed to have been targeting residents in council and association housing.

The council has advised people not to make contact with the company and not to sign any documents if approached, as this could result in legal costs.

The council has also asked tenants to contact their local housing office or the council’s insurance team if they have concerns about cold-callers.

The council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, Cllr Lisa Phipps, said: “As soon as officers became aware of this company checks were run with the Financial Conduct Authority who confirmed that Safe Housing is not authorised and regulated by them.  Further investigations are being carried out, but in the meantime we encourage tenants to be wary of callers to their home and to seek advice from officers before signing any documents.”
