Two men accused of attacking and robbing a man in Lower Graig y Rhacca have pleaded not guilty.

Steven Soal, 25, and Joshua Soal, 32, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, June 21, via a video link from HM Prison Swansea.

The attack happened in Lower Graig y Rhacca at around 8.15pm on Monday, May 20.

The victim had not long got off the Stagecoach 50 bus from Caerphilly town centre when he was attacked from behind. He suffered a suspected fractured eye socket and had his car keys and house keys stolen.

Judge Eleri Rees described the incident as a “nasty robbery on an elderly gentleman”.

Defending Joshua Soal, Christopher Rees said there “was no dispute about them being on the bus”.

Further CCTV footage and forensic evidence is set to be compiled ready for hearing on July 5.

The pair will face trial again at Cardiff Crown Court at a later date.
