Police urge residents to keep windows and doors locked

News | | Published: 13:44, Friday June 28th, 2019.

Gwent Police are urging residents to keep their windows and doors locked this summer after two recent break-ins.

The warning comes after two burglaries overnight, between Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27, in the Elm Drive and Moriah Hill area of Risca. During the Moriah Hill burglary. A Volkswagon Golf (registration CF03 DYC) was taken after its keys were taken as well as a wallet stolen.

Detective Inspector Leigh Holborn said: “With summer now here, I would urge home owners to think carefully about security when going to bed or leaving their property, even if it’s just for a short time. Far too many domestic burglaries occur where occupants have left windows open or doors unlocked.

“Help yourself by making that extra check which could prevent you from losing cash, bank cards, televisions, computers, jewellery, car keys and your car. The chances of becoming of victim of crime in Gwent are rare, but residents need to remain vigilant. Please report any suspicious activity however big or small to us on 101 or private message us on our Gwent Police Twitter or Facebook account.”
