Council home improvement programme sees large investment

News | | Published: 10:41, Thursday July 4th, 2019.

A council home improvement programme in the Caerphilly county borough saw its largest investment to date during the last financial year.

During 2018/19 Caerphilly County Borough Council invested £51.8 million into its tenants’ homes and surrounding areas as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme.

The council is on target to complete WHQS during 2020, by which time a total investment of around £260 million will have been made into its housing stock.

A progress report, considered by the council’s Caerphilly Homes Task Group at its meeting on 27th June, advised that at the financial year end surveys to homes were almost 100% complete, 85% of homes met WHQS internally and 71% were externally compliant.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, the council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Places, said: “The WHQS programme is the council’s largest ever single investment into its housing stock.

“It’s excellent to see the programme continuing to progress well, as we reach the final stages, and the improvements that are being delivered to our tenants homes.

“The recent progress report also demonstrates the additional benefits being delivered for our tenants and local communities as a result of the investment.”
