The jobs fair gave young people the chance to meet with potential employers

Hundreds of young people attended a jobs fair at Sue Noake Leisure Centre in Ystrad Mynach on Thursday, September 12.

More than 70 employers and training providers attended the fair, run by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s youth service.

The event, called Live Vacancy, was set up with the aim of helping young people aged between 16 and 24 who are looking for employment, education or training opportunities.

The council teamed up with Careers Wales to deliver the event.

Caerphilly County Borough mayor, Cllr Julian Simmonds, presented ten pupils from Lewis Girls’ School with certificates to celebrate their GCSE results.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, cabinet member for education and achievement, said: “We are thrilled that the demand for this event keeps growing year on year and working with our partners Careers Wales, we are able to meet the demand.

“It is vital that we help to support our young residents, as best we can, to carve out a future career.

“By hosting an event of this nature we are well placed to offer advice and guidance on training and education and ensure they have access to job opportunities to help them choose the right path.”

The next Live Vacancy event will be held in March 2020.
