Christmas box appeal for homeless people

A box of donations towards the appeal

A Christmas box appeal has been set up to provide homeless people with gifts this festive season.

Gem Walker, who has organised the initiative, said she was inspired to set up the appeal after a conversation with her eight-year-old daughter, who pointed out that not everyone is lucky enough to receive presents at Christmas.

Ms Walker said: “Without hesitation I was straight on the computer setting up this appeal, it started off just a small thing asking a few people for a few shoe boxes then to what it is now – several shops and businesses helping, people donating to our JustGiving page and people donating to our donation boxes.”

A number of donation stations have been set up in Risca, including at the Tesco store, Premier Top Shops, Tousles Hair and Beauty, Furry Godmothers, The Goodbye Shop, The Coffee Mill, Reem Salon and Risca and Crosskeys youth clubs.

Gifts donated towards the appeal

All donations are welcome, including shoes boxes, Christmas bags, wrapping paper, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, toiletries, notebooks, pens, sweets, chocolate or playing cards.

The Homeless Christmas Box Appeal is ending on Monday, December 2. All donation stations will be collected and bagged up in time for Christmas.

Money can also be donated on obv.sr/xmasbox.
