Scout groups and volunteers from across Caerphilly County Borough have been recognised at the Celebration of Scouting awards.

The award ceremony, organised by ScoutsCymru, was held in Llandrindod Wells on Saturday, October 26.

In total, 61 individuals and groups from across Wales were shortlisted for eight different categories and scouts volunteers from Caerphilly County Borough picked up three awards.

Club scout explorer, Lewis Griffiths, 18, from the Caerphilly, Rhymney and Islwyn (CRAI) Explorer Scout Unit, received a Highly Commended award in the Young Volunteer category for his dedication to scouting, encouraging inclusivity, and exploration of the different faiths and beliefs within his unit.

Andrea Soulsby, 55, an area training adviser from Mid Glamorgan Scouts District, got a Lifetime Achievement award after 43 years of volunteering.

Commenting on Andrea’s dedication, judges said: “Andrea has been with scouting since 1976 and has shown constant dedication to her work.

“Andrea lives the Scouts values in everything she does and encourages and inspires everyone around her to do the same. She is the model of how every scout should be.”

The Group Award was given to the CRAI Activity Park team for their hard work restoring the park back from its neglected state to a hive of activity for local young people.

Judges said: “CRAI Activity Park wins this award for their work in securing the future of the scout park, which has activities made with scouts’ values in mind and is a great place for young people to be.”

Regional Commissioner for South Wales, 46-year-old Rob Redmond, of the CRAI District, was shortlisted for the Adult Volunteer Award.

Chief Commissioner for Wales, Rhian Moore, said: “This year’s award nominations were of an exceptionally high standard.

“The work that is being carried out across Wales by our dedicated volunteers is truly inspiring.

“I would like to say a huge congratulations to all of this year’s winners, those who won Highly Commended and those who were nominated, you are all making an incredible difference to the lives of young people across Wales.”
