A Help for Heroes campaign launched in Caerphilly town centre has raised more than £1,000, the charity has said.

A display made up of thousands of miniature figures was set up at Castle Court Shopping Centre on Saturday, November 2 as part of the #40ThousandStrong campaign.

Each figure represented one of the 40,000 men and women who have been medically discharged from the Armed Forces over the last 20 years.

People were able to buy the figures in exchange for a donation to Help for Heroes.

Figures will go on sale, with proceeds going to Help for Heroes

The charity has thanked local businesses, civic leaders, and the public for their support.

Volunteers were joined by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Cardiff Military Wives Choir and Reservists from 614 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force for the event.

Help for Heroes’ community recovery manager, Shelley Elgin, said: “Our team of dedicated 1-2-1 key workers, sports recovery and fellowship coordinators and a clinical liaison nurse deliver services across the country from our Community Recovery office in Treforest.

“We are incredibly grateful to the people of Caerphilly who generously supported us in our Caerphilly activation day.”
