Bedwas made it eight wins from eight in the WRU National Championship with a bonus-point victory away to Maesteg Harlequins.

A last gasp try from Mike Dacey secured the bonus point on Saturday, December 7.

The win sees Bedwas remain third in the table, behind only Pontypool and Bargoed having played less games than their promotion rivals.

A penalty from Dion McIntosh gave Bedwas the lead after ten minutes as the rain poured at the South Parade Playing Fields.

The visitors soon found themselves with an extra player when Maesteg hooker Cameron Thomas was sin binned after a Bedwas driving maul was judged to have been stopped illegally.

Bedwas made the most of the sin binning, with Dacey scoring his first try of the afternoon and McIntosh adding the conversion to go 10-0 up.

But the visitors were dealt two blows as forwards Jonathan Armitage and Gareth Allen left the field within a few minutes of each other, both with serious looking ankle injuries.

They were replaced by Owen Jones and Matthew Bovington before the end of the first half.

Replacement Jones opened the scoring in the second half with a try converted by McIntosh to give Bedwas a 17-0 lead.

Twenty minutes later, Jones went from saint to sinner after receiving a yellow card for not retreating ten metres at a home penalty.

However, Bedwas held firm and didn’t concede while Jones watched on from the sidelines.

Shortly after Jones’ return to the pitch, Bovington scored a try to extend Bedwas’ advantage.

McIntosh failed to convert for two extra points, but Bedwas were now just a try away from the all-important four-try bonus point.

Up stepped Dacey with his second try of the game after a Bedwas driving maul to clinch the bonus point.

McIntosh slotted the conversion through the posts before the final whistle blew.
