A group of amateur musicians have released an album featuring a collection of original songs.

The group, which meets every Thursday at Bargoed Library, has been working with Caerphilly-based social enterprise RecRock to produce and record the album.

The weekly sessions are open to anyone who wants to gain skills and confidence through music.

The album, called Chapters, was launched at Bargoed Library on Thursday, December 19.

The project was funded by the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) CASH4U fund, and was supported by Caerphilly Arts Development.

Project leader Dan Fitzgerald, from RecRock, said: “It has been amazing to see the group collaborate and make noise in the library, who have been so supportive of our project.

“A great deal of effort has been put into the artwork, recording and song writing. We are already working on the second album.”

Group member Phillip Jones said: “Writing and recording our own original album has been an amazing collaborative effort.

“Everyone brought their own unique talents and personalities into it and we hope that the final result inspires other people in the community to create as well.”

Caerphilly AM Hefin David, who was at the album launch, said: “I’m grateful to Dan from RecRock for inviting me to come along to their album launch to listen and talk to everybody involved with this positive project.

“In such a short space of time the group has pulled together something they can be really proud of. I look forward to meeting with the group again in the future.”
