Greggs has applied for planning permssion for this unit in Pengam

Bakery chain Greggs will benefit from a new branch in an industrial estate in Pengam, after plans were given the go-ahead.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has approved plans to convert a building in Pinewood Court in the St David’s Industrial Estate to be used as a bakery.

The delegated decision report says: “This application relates to the change of use of a recently completed industrial building which is located within an established industrial estate that hosts a number of diverse uses, many of which provide services to visiting members of the public, or the sale of goods and or equipment directly to the trade.

“The proposed use will offer food for sale for consumption off the premises.

“It is also intended to provide a limited amount of seating within the building and some immediately outside the main access door to allow customers to consume their purchases.”

The bakery will benefit from an outdoor seating area, which could cater for eight customers. There will also be three car parking spaces for customers.

It is expected that the new branch would create ten jobs – two full-time and eight part-time.

A condition of the planning permission is that the bakery can only be open between 6am and 9pm on weekdays, 6am to 6pm on Saturdays and 8am to 6pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

However, the planning application says that the store is expected to be closed on Sundays.

There were no objections to the planning application.
