Normal rail service has resumed along the Rhymney line following hours of disruption caused by a broken-down train, a Transport for Wales (TfW) spokesman has said.
The train broke down at around 9am this morning (Wednesday, January 22) at Lisvane and Thornhill station.
The line was reopened at around 10.40am, but disruption to services between Rhymney and Cardiff Central continued until around 1pm.
Transport for Wales (TfW) put on replacement buses to help deal with the disruption.
A spokesperson for TfW said: “We would like to apologise to all customers affected by the disruption to the services on the Rhymney Valley this morning. This was due to a train failure at Lisvane and Thornhill station.
“A rail replacement service was organised and arrangements were made for rail tickets to be accepted on local bus operator services.
“TfW staff were also sent quickly to key stations on the route to help customers with onward travel.
“The broken-down train has now been removed and the line reopened at 11.05am.”
