Caerphilly County Borough Council is to invest nearly half a million pounds into new skate parks across the borough.
New skate parks will be developed in Bargoed, Graig y Rhacca, Penllwyn, Phillipstown, Porset Park and Rhymney, costing £469,000.
The planned skate park in Phillipstown, near New Tredegar, will receive an extra £40k of funding from the Phillipstown Forever Group.
A further £40k will go towards the overall project from the council’s Parks Department budget.
The council has awarded the contract to build the new skate parks to Bendcrete Leisure Ltd.
The contract is due to begin in February and run until July, with information sessions being held in each community receiving a new skate park to show residents the designs and and to answer questions.
The council is investing in the skate parks as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme, which the council say is seeing £260m invested into improving council housing throughout the borough.
Cllr Lisa Phipps, cabinet member for homes, places and tourism, said: “As well as transforming homes, the council’s WHQS programme will also see local communities transformed through the environmental element of the standard.
“Working with our residents to make sure they have a say in the improvements is vital to the council – we’re really pleased to be working alongside these local communities to develop and deliver these brand new skate park projects that will benefit children and keep them active for years to come.”
