A barbershop in Bedwas has celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Hairdresser Ceri Byrd set up Razors barbershop, on Church Street, on January 30, 1995.

Ms Byrd, who was just 21-years-old when she started the business, said: “It was really scary. Mam and Dad believed in me. But I wouldn’t be here without my customers.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to all my customers for their continued support because without them, it wouldn’t be that.”

Ms Byrd started her career as a hairdresser in Caerphilly, but chose to specialise in barbering after finding out she was allergic to the dye colours used there.

She was then trained as a barber in Trethomas before starting her own business.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary, a free raffle was organised, with the winner winning five free dry-cuts.

Shirley Lynch, who has been a customer for 19 years, said: “We meet people, you have a chat, there is a funny atmosphere. Ceri is such a lovely girl.

“She would do anything for anybody.”

Kathy Wilsher, who works part-time as a hairdresser at the salon, was trained by Ms Byrd “from scratch”.

Ms Wilsher started working at the salon 20 years ago, aged 14.

Ms Wilsher said: “I have known Ceri for a very long time. I would say she is like my sister – she is my best friend.

“It’s not like work. It doesn’t feel like work. She’s a lovely lady. She is a brilliant boss and friend. Everything is the best moment with Ceri.”

She added: “I’m so proud of her because she has done so well.”
