A person has died after being hit by a train near Energlyn and Churchill Park railway station.

The incident happened at around 7.05pm on Monday, February 3.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service Spokesperson said: “We sent one rapid response vehicle, our hazardous area response team, an emergency medical retrieval and transfer team and one emergency ambulance to the scene, where we were assisted by our colleagues from the police.”

Cllr Jamie Pritchard said: “I went to the station on Monday night to speak to local residents, the police and the ambulance service.

“Local residents are in shock and thoughts are going out from the community.”

The Rhymney line was closed and replacement bus services were offered to rail passengers.

The line has since re-opened and trains are running as normal.
