The pony rescued on Gelligaer Common

RSPCA Cymru is trying to track down the owner of an “extremely thin” pony rescued from Gelligaer Common.

The pony was rescued on Friday, February 7, and is the second pony rescued from the common in recent weeks.

The pony, believed to be around nine-months-old, was rescued by the RSPCA, with assistance from Redwings, the British Horse Society and World Horse Welfare, alongside the local authority.

Deputy chief inspector Gemma Black, who attended to the animal, said: “After some time searching we found the youngster who was clearly extremely thin.

“This pony is now in our care and is receiving treatment and the appropriate care. At first he wasn’t eating, but on Monday (February 10) he ate really well, so we’re hopeful he is on the mend.

“He doesn’t have a microchip so we can’t trace his owners, so we’re appealing for anyone with information to contact us on our inspector appeal line 0300 123 8018.”

Anyone with any animal welfare concerns can call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
