Just 122 houses were built in Caerphilly last year, making it the fewest on record.

Housing completions in Caerphilly County Borough were down 36% last year from 190 in 2018 to 122 in 2019, according to figures from the council’s joint housing land availability study (JHLAS) 2019.

It’s also a 70% decrease on five years prior in 2015, when there were 414 houses built.

Of the 122 houses built in 2019, 102 were on large sites. However, the council had expected 179 to be built.

The target for 2020 is 1,790.

There were 20 small site developments completed in 2019, which is less than half of the previous year where 53 were completed.

There are under two years left on the housing supply plan and Caerphilly County Borough Council still has 3,800 houses to build.

According to the survey, 924 houses are forecast to be completed within this time frame, which leaves a shortfall of 2,876.

Caerphilly council has been approached for comment.
