In-form Gerwyn Price earned his third European tour title on St David’s Day as he defeated Michael Smith 8-3 in the Belgian Darts Championship.

With a £25,000 top prize up for grabs, Price pulled out averages of over 100 in three of his five matches as he cruised to victory over ‘Bully Boy’ in impressive fashion.

With the match-up all-square at 2-2, the Iceman produced a five-leg winning streak that put him firmly in control of the tie before hitting his favourite double top to secure an 11th PDC ranking title.

The darts star, from Markham, is currently the only undefeated player in the 2020 Premier League after he earned his first title of the year a little over a week ago.

The two-time Grand Slam of Darts champion capped off a dominant day with his title win, after thrashing Jamie Hughes 6-0 and calmly disposing of Mensur Suljovic 6-2.

Price then produced an impressive display under pressure, coming back from 3-0 down to defeat Dirk van Duijvenbode 7-4 in the semi-finals at the Expo Hasselt.

The Welshman kept his cool with some important checkouts across the tournament and acknowledged just how crucial they were.

“I think my checkouts this weekend kept me in the games,” Price said after the match.

“I hit some big shots when I needed them most to change the way some games were going.”

He added: “The crowd were fantastic all weekend, I appreciate everything from them.

“I think I played pretty well all the way through the tournament and hopefully I can keep this form going into the Premier League and UK Open next week.”
