Caerphilly County Borough Council has said it is following national advice in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, after a case was confirmed in Newport.
As of Monday, March 9, there are currently six confirmed cases of Covid-19.
The most recent case is of a resident in the Newport local authority area who has recently returned from Northern Italy.
Another person from Neath Port Talbot has also tested positive.
The Chief Medical Officer for Wales, Dr Frank Atherton, said: “I can confirm that two additional individuals in Wales have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of positive cases in Wales to six.
“Both individuals are being managed in clinically appropriate settings. All appropriate measures to provide care for the individuals and to reduce the risk of transmission to others are being taken.”
GP surgeries across Wales will receive packs of face masks, gloves and aprons for their personal protection as they treat people with suspected coronavirus, Health Minister Vaughan Gething has announced.
Packs were prepared over the weekend, and will be distributed to the 640 GP surgeries in Wales this week.
The Minister also authorised Personal Protection Equipment to be released from stockpiles for use by front line NHS and social services staff.
Health Minister Vaughan Gething said: “These packs are part of robust infection control measures that we have in place, and I want to reassure people that we are working closely with NHS Wales and social services across the country to implement our planned response.
“It is important that frontline medical and social care staff have the equipment they need to keep them safe while they help people with suspected coronavirus.
“The face masks, gloves and aprons are part of a stockpile that we have in place as part of our contingency planning should they be needed to support our NHS and social services.”
Pupils returns from Disneyland Paris
Meanwhile, Newbridge School has said it will be speaking to pupils who recently returned from a trip to Disneyland Paris after it was reported a maintenance worker had tested positive.
It is also understood that several other schools from Caerphilly County Borough have also been on trips to Disneyland Paris including Ysgol Cymraeg Caerffili and Lewis Girls School.
A Disneyland Paris spokesman said: “We have been notified that a cast member, who works backstage and does not have contact with guests, has tested positive and is receiving treatment.
“We have been in regular contact with the local health authorities and continue to implement preventive measures in line with their recommendations to help protect our guests and cast members.”
The park remains open.
National guidance being followed
A spokeswoman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said the authority was following national guidance.
She said: “The council continues to follow official advice from key agencies such as Welsh Government and Public Health Wales.
“Information is being updated on a regular basis; with daily bulletins and updates shared with staff and members of the public via the council’s communication channels.”
