Trethomas Bluebirds manager Mark Dunford is hopeful that his latest signing Andrew Smith can fire the club to promotion this season.

The striker, who has previous experience with Caerau Ely and Pontypridd Town, has joined the club after spending time playing in Australia.

The Bluebirds have enjoyed an impressive season in the Welsh League Division Two, sitting second in the table and three points adrift of leaders Ynysygerwn, with a game in hand.

Dunford said: “I’ve tracked Andrew for quite a long time and I’m over the moon to be able to bring him to the club. He’s a proven goalscorer at the highest level in the Welsh League.

“I’ve always been a great admirer of what he offers as a striker and he’s shown that he can produce the goods with his goalscoring.

“He works hard, he’s very motivated and gets on well with other people.”

Smith was an influential figure for Caerau Ely and helped the Cymru South outfit on their way to the Division One title in the 2014/15, scoring 29 goals in the process.

Smith’s arrival will provide competition for fellow frontmen Adam Johns, Dafydd Pearce and Adam Raymond.

“As a football club we’re going in the right direction,” Dunford added.

“Since coming in at the beginning of the season as first-team manager, it’s always been my ambition to take the club forward. That has partially been accomplished with our current league position and the level of ability within our squad.

“I’ve been delighted with the season so far and I have to give credit to the management team in Adam Raymond and Bobby Briers for assisting me, but also the committee members behind the scenes.

“We’re in a position where we’re further ahead than we expected but we haven’t achieved anything yet.”
