Libraries and leisure centres across Caerphilly County Borough will close from 3.30pm today in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

A statement on the council’s website reads: “Due to the ongoing spread of the Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) and updated Public Health Wales guidelines – we have taken the decision to close all of our facilities with immediate effect, for the foreseeable future.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly but at this time our user’s safety must take priority.”

All council visitor attractions, such as Llancaiach Fawr, will also close.

All council meetings have been cancelled and payment offices in Newbridge and Pontlottyn are also closed for the foreseeable future.

The council is looking to continue to provide a free school meal to all eligible pupils whilst the schools are closed to pupils. If your child is eligible and you wish to continue to receive this service please contact bridgesintowork@caerphilly.gov.uk pic.twitter.com/QLcxdys9m0

The council has now confirmed that the Caerphilly 10k race has been postponed from May 17 to Sunday, September 13.

The Nikwax Caerphily Challenge – Wild Boar due to take place on May 2 has also been cancelled.
