Ystrad Mynach’s Price was expected to compete in the Olympic European qualifying event in London earlier this month.

The World and Commonwealth Games middleweight champion was set to take on France’s Davina Michel at the Copper Box Arena.

But the International Olympic Committee Boxing Task Force (BTF) – the tournament’s organisers – pulled the plug on the event on Monday, March 16, because of Covid-19.

Lauren Price crowned world champion in dramatic fashion

In a statement issued before the postponement of the Olympic Games, the BTF said: “Since the preparation phase of the event, the BTF has been working in close cooperation with the Local Organising Committee – the delivery body of the competition – as well as its stakeholders, its own medical experts and the national health authorities, to set up the necessary precautionary measures.

“The BTF eventually took the decision to suspend the event, amid increasing global travel restrictions and quarantine measures, in order to allow the participants from over 60 countries to adjust their travel plans and return home.”
