Plans for 46 new homes on former school site lodged

A further 46 homes could be built on the site of a former school, bringing the total number to 101.

Plans for 55 homes on the former playing fields of Bedwellty Comprehensive School were approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s planning committee last year.

An application to build a second wave of 46 homes by developer Llanmoor has now been submitted.

The school was closed in 2005 as a result of falling pupil numbers and the school buildings were demolished soon after its closure.

Controversial accommodation plans given the green light

Of the 46 homes, seven will be affordable – all of which will be one-bedroom bungalows.

The remaining homes, to be sold on the open market, include four two-bedroom houses, 23 three-bedroom homes and 12 four-bedroom homes.

Foot and cycle paths and a wooded area, as well as landscaping, are also included in the plans.

A planning statement says the development will be “well connected” to local facilities, and to existing walking, cycling and public transport links.

It says: “It is considered that the scale of residential units and the development as a whole is appropriate to the site and is in keeping with the scale of development typical to the area.

“Existing green assets will be protected and enhanced, promoting biodiversity; and encouraging healthy lifestyles.”
