Council’s bulky items collection service to resume

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s bulky item collection service is set to resume after being suspended due the coronavirus pandemic.

As of Monday, May 4, residents can book collections, with the service restarting on Monday, May 11.

However, a number of additional measures have been introduced to the service to protect both staff and residents.

The service will only collect ‘priority’ items, including household furniture and white goods.

A two metre distance between residents and staff will be enforced, while all waste must be left on the kerb the night before or morning of the scheduled collection. No assisted collections will be offered.

Meanwhile, if a member of the household has shown or is showing any symptoms of coronavirus, the council is urging them not to book a collection.

If a member of the household has had symptoms but has completed the 14-day isolation period, items need to be cleaned before they are collected.

Cllr Nigel George, the council’s cabinet member for environment and neighbourhood services, said: “The suspension of some services, such as bulky item collections, was necessary in order to help protect everyone’s safety and prevent the spread of infection.  We also understand, however, the inconvenience that this has caused for many residents. 

“The council is continually monitoring and reviewing our practices in line with official guidance and resuming services as soon as it is assessed as safe to do so.

“We’re grateful to residents for their patience during this time and thank those who have been storing old items of furniture responsibly whilst waiting for this service to resume.  We also ask for residents’ patience going forward, as we refine the service in line with government guidance.”
