Face masks to be made compulsory in indoor public spaces across Wales

Face masks will be compulsory in indoor public spaces in Wales, such as shops and banks, from Monday (September 14).

The rule has already been implemented in Caerphilly County Borough, which was placed under a local lockdown by Welsh Government on Tuesday (September 8).

The rule is not in place in pubs, cafes and restaurants. Health Minister Vaughan Gething told Caerphilly Observer it would be impractical to take a mask on and off to eat or drink.

Face masks have been compulsory on public transport in Wales since July.

Meanwhile, First Minister Mark Drakeford has also announced changes to the extended household rules in Wales.

The new rules will ban more than six people from meeting indoors as part of an extended household.

However, the rules will not apply to children aged 11 and under.

Currently, up to four households are able to form an extended household in Wales, except in Caerphilly County Borough – where extended households are currently banned.

The current rule allowing up to 30 people to meet outdoors will remain in place across Wales – including Caerphilly.
